On Friday, Leader McCarthy sent a letter requesting to meet with President Biden in order to acknowledge the rapidly escalating crisis at our southern border, develop a plan, and address the crisis.
President Biden’s shift on immigration policy is “likely sending signals that are encouraging the surge,” according to Axios. Leader McCarthy addressed this in his recent letter, writing, “To be clear — there is never a ‘right time’ to enter the country illegally and violate the laws of the United States. Signaling otherwise is reckless and will make the situation worse.”
As Homeland Security Committee Republicans note, even House Democrats are beginning to take notice of Biden’s border crisis. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX-28) are sounding the alarm along with local officials along the border.

The numbers indeed highlight the magnitude of this crisis: illegal crossings by family units have increased by 2,000 per week since before Inauguration Day, HHS overflow facilities are expected to hit capacity this month, and 13,000 unaccompanied children are expected by May.
