Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom today to discuss immigration, the nation’s opioid epidemic, and the late Reverend Billy Graham.

Excerpts are below, or watch online here.

On the need to reform our immigration system:

“Congress does not have to settle DACA by March 5, but we need to settle this problem. We shouldn’t have it perpetuate itself into the future. We will continue to work to secure the border and look at chain migration as well.”

On California Democrats being out of touch with the country:

“If we lost the majority, Nancy Pelosi would become speaker. There was a headline this week that Nancy Pelosi is the most conservative democrat running in congress in San Francisco. She believes that tax cuts were ‘Armageddon’ and the idea that people got bonuses is absurd. I don’t think that’s the direction America wants to go.”

On steps Congress is taking to address our nation’s opioid epidemic:

“More than 170 people a day die from opioids. Last Congress, we actually passed something that dealt with this–CARA–and we put more money in this year’s budget deal for opioids. The Energy and Commerce Committee is holding a hearing today and the Ways and Means is working as well to find ways we can cure this problem. This is an epidemic across the United States reaching every area.”

On the late Reverend Billy Graham:

“It’s a very solemn day. Billy Graham will only be the fourth American who will lie in honor. He deserves that honor for the way he carried his life, his character, and the number of people that he had reached with the message and the love of Jesus Christ. I think Billy Graham was an individual that reached across the aisle to all presidents, and the individual that deserves the right to lie in honor. You will find many members of Congress there today to pay their respects to a man who did so much for this nation and world.”
