Washington, D.C. – As part of the “Restore” commitment vertical from the Commitment to America — Republicans plan to Restore our way of life, Rebuild the greatest economy in history, and Renew the American dream — Leader McCarthy is highlighting voices from our community.

Below is a plea for normalcy from Larry Trapp, a CA-23 constituent who detailed exactly how a COVID-19 vaccine will help restore his way of life:

“There are many important developments and scientific and medical breakthroughs that we tend to take for granted. Is there anyone who seriously does not understand how much the computer and media technology has made our lives much better in many different ways? Imagine trying to circumvent this period of time, trying to maintain our children’s education, without digital technology. Is there anyone who has had to watch their own children battle childhood diseases such as polio on a massive scale in the United States since the 1950s? I doubt that anyone would seriously deny the positive medical impact on the world through vaccines that made crippling childhood diseases a thing of the past.

“But, I understand that there are many naysayers and others who are determined to keep our great country subservient to the wishes of those who bare political animosities towards whatever political party is in control. This is just crazy thinking. We must necessarily divorce from our language terminology such as ‘the new normal,’ ‘this Covid Season,’ and many other such sentiments of defeat. We must strive to find a vaccine to eradicate this bane on society. We must necessarily see the past six months not as some type of ‘new normal,’ but rather as some type of hideous abnormal existence. In the 1960s, John F. Kennedy challenged America to put a man on the moon, not because it was easy to do, but because it was hard. This defeat of the Covid-19 virus may just dwarf the Apollo 11 moon landing of 1969 in terms of significance to all mankind.

“I look forward to being able to enjoy, not the big thing that come along, although I do celebrate those things. But, imagine being able to just get our cherished life-time activities back. Imagine not having to suffer as I do when having to wear a mask for more than 10 minutes (serious breathing issues which causes chest pains)! Imagine being able to decide on the spur of the moment to go once again to your favorite restaurant just to sit down and enjoy a meal with your family inside. I know we can do this to a limited extent now, but it is outdoors, and it is not nearly freezing as it does in most of American cities. Try sitting outdoors in 25-degree weather and enjoying your soon-to-be, equally freezing meal. Imagine being able to take your kids to a game – baseball, football, basketball, or any other kind of ball game. Imagine, if you wear glasses, what it was like when you could still read the labels on products without having a fogging issue.

“I want, more than anything else, to get back to normal. If it means being a test subject for a new vaccine, then count me in. I am more than willing to do whatever is necessary in order to turn the page on this nightmare that has been thrust upon our country. I hope as a fellow citizen of this great country, you share my feelings and my thought about this, and that you would, to quote Admiral Farragut, ‘Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!’

“Bring on the vaccines – please!”
