There are 21 legislative days left on the calendar. In that brief time, Congress has a lot of work to do. But Members can’t fulfill their responsibilities if Democrats continue to turn their backs on those duties as they remain fixated on removing from office the duly elected President.
One of the most important responsibilities Members have is ensuring our military, first responders, and other servicemembers who are dedicated to protecting our country and the American people have the resources to do so. But right now, House Democrats are failing to pass appropriation bills that would end the Continuing Resolution and fund the government. As a result, pay increases for our troops and disaster recovery funds are at a stalemate.
House Republicans just gave Democrats a chance to end the Democrats’ legislative stall. Today’s Previous Question voted on the House floor would have suspended Speaker Pelosi’s sham process of impeachment until the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 and the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2020 are signed into law.
Unfortunately, 223 House Democrats voted to prioritize impeachment over our troops. That is a particularly egregious failure on behalf of these elected Representatives. Our troops deserve better.
Here are just a few other things Democrats are NOT doing as they pursue their sham process of impeachment:
- Lowering prescription drug prices
- Passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)
- Repairing the country’s crumbling infrastructure
- Unlocking more of America’s economic potential
- Protecting users’ online privacy
- Securing the border and fixing the broken immigration system
- Fighting the opioid epidemic
- Solving the homelessness crisis
Each of these failures represent an enormous opportunity cost for the American people.
