At a weekly press conference, Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) delivered the following remarks regarding the Democrats’ most recent effort to push socialism on the United States, this time by way of instituting a single-payer, government-controlled health care system, which was considered by the House Rules Committee today.

Leader McCarthy was joined by House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01), Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (WY-AL), and Dr. Michael Burgess (TX-26).

“[…] this is not something that people can sit back and say, ‘Oh, it’s just one or two of their ideas.’ More than half their conference has cosponsored this bill. A cosponsoring of the bill. A hearing is taking place in the Rules Committee. It will guarantee more than 150 million Americans lose their health care.

“And this is something that [Democrats] continue to move forward. Not just throw out an idea to talk about — they’re now having a hearing with more than half of their conference cosponsoring the bill — to guarantee that if you have private health insurance today, you can no longer have it. TRICARE can no longer survive.

“This is their answer. It is more control. It is more socialism instead of the freedom that Dr. Burgess has watched in the practice of health care.”
