Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the announcement that Chairman Ed Royce (CA-39) would retire at the end of this term:

“Throughout his time in the House, Ed has fought for a strong American foreign policy, to counter the worst actors on the international stage, and to protect American interests while promoting our nation’s most cherished values. While Ed can look back on many years of devoted service to his constituents and our great state of California as well as all of his accomplishments as a legislator and Chairman, he deserves particular praise for his years promoting human rights, especially in the fight to end human trafficking and protect the most vulnerable people around the world. It’s hard to see my good friend Ed go, but I wish him and his wife Marie every blessing as they take the next step in their lives together.”
