Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of a resolution sponsored by Leader McCarthy—H.Res. 354, condemning the violence against peaceful protestors outside of the Turkish ambassador’s residence:

“In America, every citizen has the right to peaceably assemble. This right is so fundamental it is enshrined in the First Amendment of our Constitution. When Turkish security personnel charged at peaceful protestors in our nation’s capital to beat and bloody them, they not only broke the law, they insulted our country and our founding ideals. The House has spoken in a clear voice today. Free speech and assembly will not yield to thuggery.”
