Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of five pieces of legislation that will bring power back to the American people and restore Congress’s Article I authority:

“The only way to fix Washington is to push back against the powerful unelected bureaucracy and increase the power of the people through their representatives. You can see the disregard for the people when federal agencies hand out hard-earned taxpayer money to special interests in illegitimate sue and settle cases, or when those called to testify flatly refuse to respect Congressional subpoenas, depriving Americans of their right to know the truth.

“The House has been draining the swamp and putting the people back on top since the beginning of this year. We started by using the Congressional Review Act, voting to repeal 16 Obama-era regulations, and followed with multiple bills to change how rules are approved and to make the regulatory process more accountable. The five bills we passed this week will remind everyone again that the people are back in charge.”

Note: This week, the House passed five pieces of legislation to restore Article I authority:

  • H.R. 732, the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act
  • H.R. 469, the Sunshine for Regulations and Regulatory Decrees and Settlements Act
  • H.R. 1096, the Judgment Fund Transparency Act
  • H.R. 4070, the Article I Amicus and Intervention Act
  • H.R. 4010, the Congressional Subpoena Compliance and Enforcement Act
