Washington, D.C. – Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 803:

“In March 2013, the House passed the Supporting Knowledge and Investing In Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act to train workers and ensure they have the skills needed to get good jobs. Right now, we have a broken and redundant job-training system that doesn’t do enough to help Americans find work. The House and Senate compromise, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, will help provide Americans the opportunity to succeed by helping people gain the training and skills needed to find a good-paying job. Passage of this bill is the first step towards true accountability. By aligning program performance metrics we can finally see which are working and which are not, allowing us to reduce duplication and root out ineffective programs.

“I hope that Senate Democrats will now turn their attention to the dozens of other jobs bills the House has already passed, which will further strengthen the economy and create jobs.

“I want to thank Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (NC-5) and Chairman John Kline (MN-2) for the work that they began over a year ago in helping America get back to work.”
