Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 26, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act:

“A fundamental principle of our republic is that all power in government ultimately comes from the people. This principle is at the root of our Constitution and safeguards us from arbitrary, unjust, and unresponsive lawmaking. Unfortunately, the people have little to no control over one of the most powerful parts of the federal government—the bureaucracy. The House acted today to change that and put the people back in charge. Today, we passed the REINS Act, which demands that Congress approve major regulations produced by the administrative state before they go into effect. Unlike with the bureaucracy, if the people don’t like our decisions, they can vote us out of office. With this act, the House is starting to change the structure in Washington and drain the bureaucratic swamp that undermines the will of the people.”
