Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 2578, the FY 2016 Commerce, Justice, and Science funding bill:
“The House again moved forward in the appropriations process today, passing the fourth funding bill for FY 2016. Continuing the House’s focus on public safety and national security, the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill provides resources for the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, and other agencies to keep us safe. It also reprioritizes some funding to give more support to counterterrorism, counterintelligence, and combatting cybercrime while continuing the prohibition against the transfer or release of Guantanamo Bay detainees into the U.S.
“Building on America’s pioneer spirit, this bill also increases funding for NASA space exploration so that America can continue to lead mankind into the final frontier. And by making key cuts, this bill stays within statutory budget caps, saving hard-working taxpayers $400 million compared to the FY 2015 bill.
“I want to thank Chairman Hal Rogers (KY-05) and the Appropriations Committee along with Representative John Culberson (TX-07) for their work on a bill that keeps America safe, funds important science research, and still saves money. This bill is a testament to their hard work.”
