Washington, D.C. – House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01), House Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Lead Republican Michael McCaul (TX-10), Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK-05), Rep. Debbie Lesko (AZ-08), and Rep. Victoria Spartz (IN-05) held a press conference today where they discussed America’s support of Ukraine and what can be done to help the Ukrainian people better defend themselves.

Rep Spartz:  “[The Ukrainian people] are not asking us to fight for them, they’re asking us to help so they have a serious ability to defend themselves. [Russia] needs to understand that we’re serious with our sanctions… I think we have a serious obligation to save this world and help the Ukrainian people survive.”

“The support should’ve been sent months ago to deter Putin [from invading Ukraine]. This administration should have never used their political weight to defeat an amendment to stop Nord Stream 2 sanctions,” said Leader McCarthy.

Excerpts from remarks are below, or watch online here.

“We cannot sit around and wait [like] when this administration told us that they would send the Covid tests to you that you could just get online [because] people waited 2 or 3 months. That same thing cannot happen to Ukraine when we are supposed to send them weapons.”

“Tonight, I hope the President stands up and changes course when it comes to the energy policy of America. Let’s not send our money to a reckless, evil man that uses it to cause death around the world.”
