On The Senate’s Recent Vote To Raise Taxes:

“These tax hikes only pay for 8 1/2 days. So does it solve the underlying deficit and debt problem? Or is this something he talks about on the campaign trail? This tax hike hits small business and small business creates more jobs than anything else in this economy – more than big corporations.”

On The Upcoming Tax Vote in the House:

“Two years ago, when President Obama was in office and it was Speaker Pelosi and Harry Reid as the Senate Majority Leader – they extended the tax cuts for everyone because they said taxes should not be raised in a down economy. What in the economy has changed from then to now? For 41 consecutive months we have faced unemployment above 8%.”

On Comprehensive Tax Reform:

“Republicans aren’t just saying we will promise you something in the future or that we can be more flexible in the future. We have produced a budget that provides a framework for comprehensive tax reform. The only way we are going to get out of this economic malaise is to grow the economy, and to do that, we need to get rid of the uncertainty and encourage businesses to grow.”
