Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 2596, the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY2016:

“America and our allies are under threat on multiple fronts. ISIL is recruiting right here in America while hackers from China and Russia are stealing our personal data and digging in to government files. When it comes to these battles, we must fight with intelligence, identifying and stopping attacks before they occur.

“This Intelligence authorization bill is necessary to respond to cyber attacks and terrorism. Simply put, it is necessary to keep us safe. And here in the House, we voted again to put national defense above politics. We did not let disagreements about government spending or Senate Democrats’ threats to shut down the government stop us from voting for this authorization with bipartisan support.

“I want to thank my good friend Chairman Devin Nunes (CA-22) and the members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for their hard work in ensuring our intelligence community has the resources they need to defend our country.”
