Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the Obama Administration’s decision to allow the sale of over 100 planes to Iran:

“Only weeks after Iran was found to have violated the nuclear agreement, the Obama Administration is yet again giving the Ayatollah more concessions. President-elect Trump campaigned explicitly against the Iran nuclear deal, and the House just passed legislation banning U.S. financial institutions from financing any aircraft sales to Iran. President Obama should acknowledge that the American people resoundingly rejected his strategy of appeasement and not allow for the sale of over 100 Airbus planes to Iran. The President’s executive agreement with Iran is on unstable ground, and actions like this underscore the need for the upcoming Trump Administration to review all options when it comes to this failed deal.”

NOTE: The House passed H.R. 5711, prohibiting financial institutions from financing exports of aircraft to Iran, on November 17, 2016.
