Today, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) hosted a roundtable on the rollout of an Energy, Climate, and Conservation (ECC) Taskforce issue area: Let America Build.

Our nation is experiencing an energy crisis under the one-party Democrat rule, and rather than put forth transformative policies to address the problem, Democrats have failed to deliver real solutions to the American people.

To highlight the pressing nature of this problem, Leader McCarthy brought together Members, including – Select Committee on the Climate Crisis Ranking Member and ECC Task Force Lead Garret Graves (LA-06), Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (AR-04), and Western Caucus Chair Dan Newhouse (WA-04) – in addition to industry leaders, to discuss the removal of regulatory hurdles that make it difficult to build new infrastructure in America. This includes legislation to reform the NEPA review process, streamline the permitting process for pipelines and advanced nuclear reactors, reduce litigation, and focus environmental reviews to speed major energy and infrastructure projects. The full attendee list is available here.

Highlights from Leader McCarthy’s remarks are below or you can watch the roundtable in its entirety here.

“We are facing an energy crisis in America and it doesn’t have to be that way. God has blessed America [with abundant natural resources] – we can be energy independent… We can lower the price of gasoline. We can lower inflation. We can also protect our environment at the same time…

“Why would we in America make ourselves dependent on somebody else? Why in America would we ever want our President going to the Middle East, asking them to produce more of something that we can produce in America?”

Additional highlights are below.

“This is America. This is the country that has outworked every other country. We’ve got greater innovation. We’re incredibly efficient here. But we’re imposing delays – we’re imposing bureaucracy on ourselves…What we are doing today is we’re releasing a component of our Energy, Climate, and Conservation Task Force that’s called ‘Let America Build’…It’s focused on cutting through the red tape.” –House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis Ranking Member and ECC Lead Garret Graves

“I can tell you this: American engineers, American ingenuity, and American innovators create the cleanest, most efficient, and the most effective projects in the whole world… We are building facilities cleaner and more efficient than anybody else.” –Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Bruce Westerman

“We are constantly working to reform our broken permitting system in this country…the permitting and regulatory process is too cumbersome, it takes too long, and it takes too much time.” – Western Caucus Chair Dan Newhouse
