“Look what we have done in the short amount of time — we’re going to get billions of dollars out to small businesses who need it, many of [whom] are shut down… I give the federal government and Secretary Mnuchin credit, he listened to the banks, made the reforms, [and] we are keeping people employed, doors open.
“You can get a loan for short term government guarantees it you don’t have to fill it out with the SBA that will make it work faster. If you use that money to pay your rent, pay your utilities, pay your employees, [then] that is a grant. That’s no longer a loan… That’s what I would be looking for that would keep my doors open.
“I’m going to be meeting with the President and the people in the energy field in the White House. In my district, [oil is] one of the most important jobs we have. We produce the second amount in any county in the nation.
“We’re in the middle of a crisis of the coronavirus [and] we’re having a man-made crisis in the energy field as well with Saudi Arabia producing more and laying thousands of people off.
“I want to thank the President for leaning in. Yesterday’s tweet was very important… we want to make sure to protect the energy workers across America. The ingenuity of what we’ve been able to do in the energy field making us energy independent [and] the leadership is very important and that’s why the meeting is so critical today.”
