Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the Senate Democrats’ blocking of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act:

“When Republicans and Democrats join together and pass legislation with a veto-proof majority, that means it shouldn’t be ignored. The SAFE Act would establish needed reforms to our refugee system to keep the American people safe. With terror on the rise around the world, we cannot give the likes of ISIS any opportunity to attack America or use our refugee system to infiltrate our homeland. Senate Democrats are ignoring the legitimate concerns of the American people by rejecting this reasonable and widely supported bill.”

NOTE: The House passed the SAFE Act on November 19, 2015 by a veto-proof vote on 289-137.
