Washington, D.C. – House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the JUSTICE Act, which was introduced in the Senate today by Senator Tim Scott:

“From the President to our colleagues in the Senate, this week we have seen Republicans stand up and rise to the needs of this moment. The JUSTICE Act introduced today by Senator Tim Scott will help deliver exactly the kinds of solutions required to keep our communities and law enforcement officers safe. It emphasizes and streamlines data collection across law enforcement agencies, improves the quality of training for our police officers, holds cops who fail to uphold their oath accountable, and provides resources for body cameras.

“House Republicans are proud to have worked alongside Tim to ensure the legislation we plan to introduce this week highlights these same priorities. Pete Stauber, a member of the House Republican conference with over 20 years of law enforcement experience, is uniquely qualified to understand the current problem set, and is doing a phenomenal job leading our efforts in the House to introduce a companion bill.

“The official introduction of the JUSTICE Act comes only a day after the President signed an action-oriented law enforcement executive order designed to address the existing challenges. While Democrats threaten to defund the police and push bills that will make our officers less safe, Republicans understand that real change will only be achieved when we improve community-law enforcement relationships and help our hardworking cops carry out their duties.”
