Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to a joint session of Congress:

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress was an important moment for our country and for Israel.  I am encouraged by the bipartisan reception given to the Prime Minister, and hope all Americans focus on the substance of the Prime Minister’s concerns.

“As I have said before, I fear the Administration has fundamentally misread the regime in Tehran.  An overly concessionary approach to negotiations and a failure to confront Iran’s aggression and support for terrorism throughout the region will not convince Iran’s rulers to change their ways.

“I renew my call for the President to work with the Congress and America’s partners in crafting a strategy to increase the financial and diplomatic pressure on Iran, bolster the weakened credibility of our military option, and confront the growing threat Tehran and its terrorist proxies pose to international peace and security.”
