Washington D.C. – Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) joined President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Second Lady Karen Pence today at the White House for a tree planting ceremony in honor of Earth Day.

Brief remarks are below, or see the whole event here.

“Today we are witnessing the planting of the tree of hopes and dreams. We know tomorrow will be better than today, and the earth will be stronger as well.
“This is the first of one trillion trees that will be planted around the world. Trees are the lungs of the earth. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. When one trillion trees are planted around this earth, it will remove the equivalent of two-thirds of all man-made carbon since the Industrial Revolution.
“This being the first of one trillion trees proves that America will lead the way in every industry, and make every part of them environmentally sound.
“We will also lead the world in creating the opportunity for tomorrow to be better than today.”
