Washington, D.C. — House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) issued the following statement in response to the killing of terrorist Ayman Al-Zawahiri:

“Today is further proof that our United States Military and Intelligence Community personnel will not stop pursuing those who threaten the United States of America and our interests. We owe a debt of gratitude to these brave Americans for defending our freedoms and protecting the homeland. Republicans will continue to support them in that effort and make sure they have the resources they need to accomplish that mission.

“This news also sheds light on the possible re-emergence of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan following President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal a year ago. The Biden administration must provide Congress with a classified briefing as soon as possible to discuss the resurgence of Al Qaeda in the region over the past year, the current foreign terrorist threat to America, and the steps we must take to keep our country safe and prevent terrorists from entering the United States.”
