Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) appeared on Fox News to discuss French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit, the Iran nuclear deal, and the importance of confirming Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State.

Excerpts of the interview are below, or watch online here.

On President Trump’s strong relationships with world leaders:

“The President has great relations with world leaders, they admire him. Mainly because he is strong, honest, and direct. He was right to tell NATO that they need to put 2% in, that is what they need to do–America can’t fund everything. I think that respect has drawn better friendships.”

On Iran deal negotiations with France:

“We are stronger standing up to Iran. The agreement was wrong from the start…it gave them a great amount of money–they are funding terrorism and they are still testing missiles. The agreement allows them to have a nuclear weapon at the end of a ten-year time period. That is unacceptable and France should be concerned about that as well.”

On the need to confirm Mike Pompeo:

“Those who would not vote for Mike Pompeo are just playing politics. Why would you play politics with a person like Pompeo? He graduated first in his class at West Point. I served with him in the House, Democrats voted for him to be CIA Director…look at the job he has done, he has excelled there. He’s been able to help get North Korea in a different place…. With the world being so challenging…having somebody like Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State is very, very important…. This is the moment to say I don’t care what Schumer and Nancy Pelosi say–I’m going to put the country first.”
