House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released the following statement regarding the short-term continuing resolution:

“Because the Democrat-controlled Senate has still not passed a budget measure for the rest of this fiscal year, House Republicans have yet again put forward a short-term budget measure that reduces spending and keeps the government open. America is facing a fiscal crisis, and we cannot afford to continue putting off making the tough decisions necessary to put our country back on the path to prosperity. Yet, that’s what our Democratic counterparts continue to do. Next week, the House will consider a second short-term budget resolution to fund the government and it’s time for Senate Democrats and the Obama Administration to finally embrace the notion that current spending levels are unsustainable. We need to get Americans back to work, and this will not happen unless the Senate Democrats and the President engage in a discussion on how to fund the government in a responsible way. We must find common-sense solutions to ensure a prosperous future for our children, and I am hopeful that we can come together for a long-term solution to reduce spending while keeping our government operational.”
