“We are navigating one of the most troubling challenges this nation has ever seen in the last century…

“As we know more than 30,000 Americans have lost their lives. These are grandparents, these are husbands, wives, brothers, sisters. They all have meaning, that is why we need to double our efforts and make sure we work even harder to get through this.

“We’re now up to 22 million Americans that this has affected through their jobs, [in addition to] the lives that we have lost…

“Today, we got some good news and some very sad news… more than $30 billion has gone out to hospitals with another $70 billion ready to go, $150 billion ready to go to the states, and we wanted to make sure people are staying employed so we created the Paycheck Protection [Program] for small businesses…

“Secretary Mnuchin asked [Congress] last week if we could increase [Paycheck Protection Program funding] by $250 billion… Mitch McConnell went to the floor in the Senate on one page [and] asked for unanimous consent. Unfortunately, the Democrats said no.

“We continue to ask that that money be put in now. If you go to the SBA website it tells you not to apply because there’s no more money. That doesn’t have to be the case…

“I can not understand how, after watching another 5 million get unemployed, Speaker Pelosi continues to say no. It’s just unheard of, [this is] a program that is working to help small businesses stay afloat and [keep] their employees hired.

“All it takes is the Democrats to say yes.”
