Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement mourning the death of Baroness Margaret Thatcher:

“Today, the free world mourns the death of one of her greatest champions – Baroness Margaret Thatcher. Lady Thatcher will always be remembered as a fierce advocate for freedom and liberty around the world. Her leadership during the Cold War earned her the nickname “Iron Lady” in the Soviet Union – a testament to her commitment to knocking down man-made walls that separated the free from the oppressed. At home, her policies that promoted the free market and private enterprise led her nation out of an economic malaise into an era of prosperity. She did so while breaking many barriers, chiefly becoming the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain, while becoming the longest-serving individual to hold that office in the 20th Century. Most of all, Lady Thatcher will be remembered as one of America’s truest friends and strongest allies. On behalf of all Americans, I offer prayers to our friends in the United Kingdom, and a commitment to honor her legacy for all time.”
