Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the passing of Representative Alan Nunnelee (MS-01):

“Alan Nunnelee was respected by all who served with him. He was a man who did his job with character and integrity that no one questioned. You knew if Alan said it, it was true. When Alan served as a member of my Whip Team, I valued his optimism and kindness and came to rely on his counsel and encouragement. After his surgery, he returned to Washington, stood, and addressed our Conference, making it clear that he was determined to get back to work. His recovery and return to the Capitol were driven by one objective—to make a difference in the lives of his fellow citizens, especially his constituents in the 1st District of Mississippi who he was humbled and honored to represent. We say goodbye to Alan knowing that he succeeded and that in doing so he reminded us all of our purpose and responsibilities as Members of the People’s House. Alan’s integrity, wisdom, and fighting spirit will be remembered by everyone in this body. Alan’s wife Tori and their children Reed, Emily, and Nathan are in my and Judy’s prayers.”
