Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the President’s first national security strategy speech:

“After years where America lacked a cohesive national security strategy, President Trump has outlined a much needed course correction that will keep America safe and advance our interests abroad. The President is right to acknowledge the spread of weapons of mass destruction as one of our most serious threats. Congress has worked with the President and will continue to work with him to make sure North Korea—a rogue regime that starves its own people—does not threaten the United States.

“This strategy also secures America’s economic and innovative power. Congress will do its part next year by exploring how to strengthen the review process for the Committee on Foreign Investment, which ensures strategic technology and intellectual property don’t end up in the wrong hands and that business practices don’t work against the national security interests of the United States. The House has already been working on legislation, and I look forward to making progress on it next year.

“We are living through dangerous times. I am confident President Trump’s new strategy will make America safe and strong.”
