Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on passage of the FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act:

“For the second year in a row we have passed an NDAA that restores readiness to our military.

“This NDAA authorizes $700 billion for our military and gives every Service a bigger budget. An enhanced budget means more ships for our Navy, more planes for our Air Force, and more soldiers to defend American interests around the world. Perhaps most importantly, this bill means our troops will get their largest pay raise in nine years.

“This bill also strengthens the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to protect our nation against China’s technology theft and other deceptive practices. Thanks to the hard work of five committees in the House, this bill closes foreign-investment loopholes, toughens reviews on technology transfers, and modernizes our export-control regime.

“This Congress is about doing big things. Sending over $700 billion to the men and women of our Armed Forces is a big deal. So is stopping China from stealing our technology and using it against us.

“I want to thank Congressmen Jeb Hensarling (TX-5), Devin Nunes (CA-22), Ed Royce (CA-39), and Greg Walden (OR-2) for mobilizing their committees to reform CFIUS. Chairman Mac Thornberry (TX-13) deserves special credit for thinking big and giving our Armed Forces the support they deserve.”
