Washington, D.C. – House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01). and Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21) met with the hosts of the “Ruthless” podcast to record a live episode where they discussed the abundant crises that have formed during the first year of the Biden administration.

“[President Biden] came in with the best ability to govern. He has the Senate. He has the House. He has the numbers,” said McCarthy. “If he had done nothing at all, if he had just slept, he would have better numbers than today.”

Highlights of Rep. McCarthy’s remarks are below, or watch online here.

One Year of Incompetent One-Party Rule:

“Prior to a year ago, we would do anything bipartisan when it came to Covid. [Democrats] took over, and they would no longer talk to us. Then when they hit $2 trillion, we knew it was too much money… only 9% of it went to Covid.”

“Our biggest fear was to create inflation, and a year later we were right.”

“[President Biden] came in with the best ability to govern. He has the Senate. He has the House. He has the numbers. If he had done nothing at all, if he had just slept, he would have better numbers than today.”

“[President Biden] spent $1.9 trillion, said it was for Covid, and still didn’t have any tests.”

Immigration:

“We went down [to the border] in either February or March in the very beginning. We go into the detention center… [members] were communicating with some people from Honduras. They asked [migrants] how long they had been and why they came. [They said] that President Biden told them too.”

“The worst part is the fentanyl: It’s not just in the border cities anymore, it’s in every city in America.”

Crime:

“This problem was created by Democrats. Their whole mantra the last Congress has been defund the police.”

“If there’s one thing we’re going to do when we’re in the majority, it’s hold [the Biden administration] accountable.”

Foreign Affairs:

“This is the 100th year since the Soviet Union was created. You know why Putin wants to have a land bridge to Crimea and Ukraine? He wants the soviet sphere to come back, and he just had the world leader — sit in the White House — basically invite him for a minor incursion.”

“The ramifications of what [President Biden] did in Afghanistan will last for decades. It’s not just our adversaries, it’s our allies. Not returning a call to Boris [Johnson], the Prime Minister [of the UK]. Remember who is [in Afghanistan] fighting for us, they didn’t get attacked on September 11th.”
