Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the introduction of legislation in the Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce Committees to repeal and replace Obamacare:

“Republicans didn’t create Obamacare or all the problems that followed—from rising premiums to crumbling exchanges to bankrupt co-ops to lost plans and restricted networks. We didn’t create these problems, but we’re going to fix it. The legislation we will pass will stop the out of control growth in health care costs. It will create universal access to private insurance. It will get rid of federal mandates and taxes. We will put Medicaid on a fiscally sustainable path while protecting individuals who gained coverage through the Medicaid expansion. We will protect people with pre-existing conditions.

“Doing nothing has never been an option. The American people need relief. Obamacare is a sinking ship, and the legislation introduced today will rescue people from the mistakes of the past by creating a health care system that actually works.”
