Washington, D.C. – House Majority Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 695, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act:

“In Washington, you hear a lot of talk about the importance of national defense, the need to fund our military, and how we have an obligation to support our troops. Our military readiness is deteriorating. Training accidents are happening more frequently as our pilots fly in outdated planes, our sailors work on outdated ships, and our soldiers use outdated equipment. But talk is cheap. America needs action.

“The House has acted. We passed funding for the Department of Defense last summer. We passed a full government funding bill, including for defense, in September. Both times, the Senate Democrat minority—which has the power to block legislation—prevented these bills from reaching the President’s desk.

“Today, we again passed complete funding for our military that will keep America safe. When the Senate brings up this bill to finally support our troops and provide for the national defense—just as every Republican and Democrat has promised to do—Senate Democrats should put their money where their mouth is and vote ‘yes.’ Senate Democrats should stop using our military as a bargaining chip on immigration, stop putting our troops at risk, and do their jobs, because politics should end when it comes to keeping America safe.”
