Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on President Trump signing the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (H.R. 1864) into law:

“Today, President Trump signed into law the most significant anti-human trafficking legislation in years. This new law will provide families and law enforcement the tools they need to shut down online marketplaces for trafficking and hold its enablers accountable.

“Representatives Ann Wagner (MO-02), Mimi Walters (CA-45), and Kristi Noem (SD-AL) have all worked for years on behalf of victims of human trafficking to bring the internet in line with the laws that protect our communities. Their efforts culminated today with President Trump signing this historic bill into law. With this law, we can shine a light into the darkest corners of the internet where 70% of the children who are victims of human trafficking are bought and sold. Congress and President Trump will only build on this seminal law to put an end to human trafficking once-and-for-all.”
