Every year, a few dedicated students from Kern County and across the country head to service academies in order to prepare for careers in the armed forces. Even at this young age, these students are committing themselves to keeping America safe by serving their fellow citizens in the Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard.
As our high school students are preparing for college, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy would like to share this message:
“If you are considering applying for a service academy, please remember that the application deadline for a nomination from my office is November 20th. We will also have an academy forum to answer any questions on Saturday, October 25 from 10:30am-11:30am at the Kern County Board of Supervisors Chambers (1115 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield). At the forum, I will explain the nomination process and representatives from each academy will be able to answer your questions.
“Unlike most offices I have a diverse committee of educators, community leaders, academy graduates, active duty military personnel, and more review the applications and make selections on my behalf based on merit alone. Good luck, and thank you to all of those currently serving or preparing to serve.”
There are currently 35 students from Representative McCarthy’s district returning to or starting at service academies this fall, and we would like to take time now to recognize them:
