Washington D.C. – Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding the announcement that Rep. Mac Thornberry (TX-13) will retire at the end of his term:

“Mac is the quintessential example of what all Members should strive for in representing their districts and influencing and leading national debates in Congress. For a quarter of a century, he has been at the forefront of the most pressing defense issues facing our country, from fighting terrorism to strengthening our conventional warfare capabilities. No one has fought harder for our men and women in uniform, and under his chairmanship at the Armed Services Committee, Republicans kept our promise to rebuild our military and equip our troops with the resources they need to keep us safe both at home and abroad.

“The name Texas translates to friend and that is how I would describe Mac, a proud Texan. My best wishes and sincerest thanks are with my good friend as he finishes his service to this Congress. Judy and I wish Mac and Sally our best as they enter the next season of life with their family.”
