Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 3442, the Debt Management and Fiscal Responsibility Act:

“If President Obama’s budget revealed anything, it’s that Democrats in Washington don’t care at all about the debt and have no plan to reduce it. The President’s unwillingness to seriously confront this issue only makes the problem worse for our children and grandchildren. So the House today voted to require the Secretary of the Treasury to do a full review, determine the exact state of our fiscal House, and present a plan to get the debt under control. Having no plan is no longer an option. The House has already passed multiple balanced budgets that would allow us to begin paying off our debt, and we will continue to propose policies to bring fiscal sanity to Washington. But the problem can’t be solved until the Administration shares Congress’s desire to make hard choices and address out-of-control spending.”
