A blog from House Select Climate Committee Ranking Member Garret Graves (R-LA):

The nationwide average price for a gallon of gas has reached $4.72 – the highest price ever recorded. President Biden and House Democrats simply don’t have a strategy to address our current energy crisis – and Americans are paying for it. The Democrats have placed fault in everything but themselves on this issue: they blamed energy producers while refusing to issue leases for energy production and discouraging investment; they’ve blamed Vladimir Putin while increasing purchases of Russian oil by 160%; and they’ve claimed renewables are the only solution while stopping production of critical minerals here at home, leaving our country even more dependent on China.

And while Democrats might set lofty goals on emissions , U.S. emissions have increased over 6% during President Biden’s first year in office.  President Biden’s failed energy agenda has taken us in the wrong direction.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects world energy consumption will grow by nearly 50% between 2020 and 2050. Who supplies that energy demand matters.

Americans don’t need leaders pointing fingers. We need leadership that can provide a coherent energy strategy that lowers costs, and provides cleaner, more secure energy to Americans and our allies around the world.

If Republicans earn back the House majority in the fall, we will be ready to enact that strategy and ease the suffering of working Americans’ wallets.

As a part of Leader McCarthy’s Commitment to America, House Republicans created seven Republican Task Forces to identify and develop policy solutions to the issues facing the American people.

The Energy, Climate, and Conservation (ECC) Task Force is creating an agenda that is built on the proven success of conservative energy policies – like those that made the United States the world leader in reducing carbon emissions while increasing productivity in the first place.

This agenda will deliver lower energy costs for consumers, create American jobs, and provide economic and energy security for American families by utilizing American resources and capitalizing on our competitive and technological advantage.

We can do this while also lowering global emissions and reducing reliance on foreign adversaries for our energy and resource needs.

Over the coming months, the ECC Task Force will roll out policies in 6 key issue areas, including:

  1. Unlock American Resources
  2. American Innovation
  3. Let America Build
  4. Beat China and Russia
  5. Conservation with a Purpose; and
  6. Build Resilient Communities

President Biden and House Democrats want you to believe that high energy prices are an unavoidable price of a cleaner planet. But the facts are not on their side.

The United States led the world in lowering emissions while lowering energy costs for American households. We accomplished this by utilizing American resources made cheaper by innovation. Instead of punishing Americans with high prices, reducing consumer choice, or making it harder for Americans to innovate, we should be exporting this model of success to the rest of the world.

We look forward to sharing this agenda with you, and to restoring American energy leadership.
