Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 3797, the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment (SENSE) Act:

“It appears that the main focus of the Obama Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is to destroy dependable and affordable energy sources. In the EPA’s wake, communities that have worked hard and played by the rules have been devastated. The Administration has been relentless in its attacks with two more rules that would put dozens of power plants out of business, as well as its recent methane pronouncement that would directly affect the jobs of American oil and gas workers. But while the Administration’s assault on working Americans is consistent, its regulatory prescriptions are a mess of contradictions. In its haste to secure a legacy on behalf of extreme environmental interests, the Obama Administration is enacting rules that harm the environment by leaving coal refuse out in the open instead of allowing it be burned for energy.

“The House is standing up against this overreach to create space for a stronger economy. Our legislation will change these EPA standards to restore a small bit of sanity to this Administration’s energy policy.”
