“We need to act. And I am glad the Senate has reached an agreement to do so.

“For over a week House Republicans have worked with our colleagues in the Senate to put together a really bold relief package in this time of crisis. Unlike the financial crisis — this is not the result of fraudulent or irresponsible business practices. This is a black swan event.

“And we will do whatever we need to for the American family, worker, and small business until we are on the other side of this.

“The legislation in the Senate will be an incredible help…

“It provides resources for hospitals that are running low and need the liquidity and help, it provides [families] direct payment for those that have been hurt or injured in this process, [and] it provides to businesses — especially small businesses — the resource to stay afloat, and importantly, to keep their employees hired.

“I want to make sure we do not slow this down, and get it to the President’s desk as soon as possible.

“It is very important that we keep individuals in America with jobs and paychecks that will keep up strong as we go through battling this virus… so we can come back stronger…..these are businesses that had to shut down from [the] government asking…

“The way Senator McConnell crafted [this bill] was the way it should be done: bottom up, bipartisan, and bicameral. Our Ranking Members were in communication with their counterparts in the Senate and you will see a lot of ideas from House Republicans are actually in this bill…

“There was no need for the delay for the last three days. That was politics at its worst… people are hurting, people are laid off…

“I know the President will take all the advice to keep us healthy, get legislation that gives us liquidity and capital to keep small businesses alive, and at the same time [come back] just as strong after this virus. Remember where we were before this virus hit, at our strongest point in 50 years…

“If we get through the two to three months and we can pass this in a healthy way our economy will be strong just as it was before. This is [our] responsibility, it’s not a place to change election law or your environmental views…. It’s a place where all Americans should come together.

“I know this is a moment where we can all come together.
