Today, the newest member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Jake Ellzey (TX-6), was sworn into office at the U.S. Capitol. This is not the first time Ellzey has raised his hand to take an oath to serve his country. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Ellzey went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a fighter pilot. His decorated military career encompasses nine deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, including five combat tours by air and one by ground with Seal Team 5. He culminated his military career on the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier where he served as the ship’s Air Boss.

Leader McCarthy delivered floor remarks to welcome Rep. Ellzey to the House Republican conference:

“Madame Speaker, I want to take one second to congratulate Jake Ellzey on his election to Congress. But it brought two people back together. Mike Garcia and Jake actually served our nation earlier before they served in this body. They flew F-18’s off an aircraft carrier into Iraq. They were brothers and now they are back together again. Serving their nation and putting it forth. It might be a little ironic that they both came in in a special election. They both were turning points on those elections and I would say underdogs in those elections. But it shows. They both graduated from the Naval Academy. Served their nation. And continue to serve again. This is a good day in this House.”
