Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) gave the following remarks at today’s leadership press conference:

“As you listen to the Speaker and the Leader, you heard about our continuing agenda. You’ve always heard from the Speaker, ‘Where are the jobs?’ And if you’ve watched what we have done within the House, as the Leader told you this morning, there are more than 200 bills sitting in the Senate. More than 200 Majority Leader Reid refuses to even bring up. The challenge is, where do we go from here? Today when you open up the papers, the President will see a poll number that is the lowest level he’s had-on the performance of the economy, his handling on Ukraine, and others. If there’s a little bit of advice I think the rest of America wants to provide it is to focus on moving this legislation. Let’s move it through the Senate. Let’s give it a voice. And let the power of the idea win at the end of the day. If they have a better idea they can bring it up as well. But the American people expect their government to work. They expect to have a debate, and they expect to move forward. So, as the Speaker said, if the President wants to use his phone, the best way to use it is to call Harry Reid and give a vote to the more than 200 bills.”
