Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding President Obama’s latest enrollment announcement:

“Today, President Obama announced that 8 million people have enrolled for health insurance under Obamacare. But once again, questions critical to measuring the law’s success went unaddressed.

“How many of those “enrollees” are actually enrolled, having paid their first month’s premium? How many paid their first month’s premium but not their second or third? How many were previously uninsured? How many were forced off their previous coverage they had and liked?

“The President says that Republicans have not accepted Obamacare as settled law. He is right. Republicans cannot and will not accept this law. Not only will Obamacare still leave millions uninsured while disrupting health care coverage for millions more, it harms jobs, cuts hours, and limits the individual liberty of each and every American. Republicans have fought to preserve workers’ hours and pay, protect our economy from slow growth and limited opportunity, and repeal and replace this disastrous law.

“Health care reform is needed. Sadly, the Affordable Care Act has failed to deliver that reform.”
