Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the heels of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s announcement regarding its request for Obamacare enrollment data:

“Only two weeks ago, the President told the American people that Obamacare was “doing what it’s supposed to do. It’s working.” Based on the law’s disastrous rollout and incomplete data, it was all too good to be true. Tonight, based on information requested from insurers by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, we now know the President’s Rose Garden “mission accomplished” pronouncement was premature. I have been asking for weeks how many of the supposed 8 million enrollees have actually paid their first premium, and the Administration never answered. According to information obtained directly from every insurance provider in the health care law’s Federally-Facilitated Marketplace, only 67% of individuals and families who had selected a health plan paid their first month’s premium as of April 15. That’s only 2.45 million that have effectuated enrollment. No matter how hard the President and Washington Democrats attempt to spin this law, the American people know that it is unfixable and must be repealed.”
