During his press conference today, the President called on Congress to produce a patent reform bill as an example of actions that could be taken to help grow our economy and create jobs.

President Obama: Right now, Congress can send me a bill that would make it easier for entrepreneurs to patent a new product or idea, because we can’t give innovators in other countries a big leg up when it comes to opening new businesses and creating new jobs. That’s something Congress could do right now. (President Obama, White House Press Conference, 6/29/11)

The House passed the America Invents Act last Thursday in a bi-partisan vote of 304-117.

House Passes America Invents Act To Reduce Backlog Of Patent Applications. “The House passed the most sweeping changes to the patent system in nearly 60 years, a rare bipartisan accomplishment pushed by major businesses bent on reducing a huge backlog of applications and aligning U.S. procedures with most of the rest of the world.” (Jim Puzzanghera, “House Passes Patent Overhaul,” Los Angeles Times, 6/24/11)

In fact, the President has numerous bills House Republicans have passed to create jobs and improve the economy.  He should take some of his own advice and encourage Senators Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer to stop stalling and help get people back to work.
